There is a Verizon outage in Chicago today on 10/1/2010, which started about 10pm CST on Sept 30. They said it is just affecting a building at 2N Lasalle St.

It is affecting digital lines that carry voice and data. It is a backbone line that your Sprint, AT&T, Verizon or other service may run over.
