If you’ve read about a recent study done by CareerBliss, then you know that IT manager is the most hated job in the country right now.  The reasons listed are as follows:

  1. Long Hours, too much time on call
  2. Dealing with old technology that won’t get upgraded
  3. Stress of working with people that don’t understand technology
  4. Trying to remain calm while helping panicking and angry users

What is interesting to me is that half of the Most Hated Jobs are technology related or in  IT.  If you are in an IT career, chances are you pursued it because you enjoy technology and always heard it pays well.  There are many immeasurables though when working in IT.  Imagine your job becomes your life, and your life is all about trying to get systems to work that are supposed to “just work”, and fixing things that are broke on an urgent basis, usually at nights and on weekends when no one will notice.

Often these geeks are reporting to people that make more money and work way fewer hours.  It’s no wonder IT workers are frustrated and hate their jobs so much.  There really isn’t much reward in their careers.  Even when everything is working they are told they are spending too much money for the firm.  So where are we headed?  Are all IT people just going to freak out and join organic farming communes?  Probably not, but behind the smiles of  your IT staff is often a whole lot of resentment and frustration.

The list of all 10 Most Hated Jobs are:

  1. Director of Information Technology
  2. Director of Sales and Marketing
  3. Product Manager
  4. Senior Web Developer
  5. Technical Specialist
  6. Electronics Technician
  7. Law Clerk
  8. Technical Support Analyst
  9. CNC Machinist
  10. Marketing Manager
