Not long ago, I was living in the hood, getting shot at and seeing drive-by shootings. I rang up a huge amount of debt (about $90k), used payday loans, pawned jewelry, worked side jobs doing rideshare and food delivery, basically whatever it took to survive.

I was at a good-paying corporate job, but it was hell. Stupid ass meetings… SOOOOO MANY MEETINGS… jerky co-workers, horrible bosses, 12-hour days to maybe get a small raise or bonus every few years… corporate politics with egotistical @$$holes, you name it, I’ve seen it.

I was miserable and not making enough money to pay all the growing bills.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, my wife lost her good-paying corporate job due to layoffs. I got a head and neck injury that screwed up my hormones so bad that I was no longer myself. Nothing was funny for a year and a half, and I felt weird and nauseous most days.

Then I fell off a ladder and broke my wrist. My wife was diagnosed with a brain tumor. We sold our house for a $60k loss just so we could move somewhere safer. I wish I was making this stuff up.

In 2016 I quit the corporate job that made me miserable. When I quit I didn’t even have anything lined up, and I didn’t care.

I became an independent contractor which paid pretty well, though without benefits. The commute was way better than daily train rides and 12-hour days of my previous job – plus I felt more free.

We found a cheap rental in a better part of town, but one thing broke after another, the bedroom ceiling collapsed on us, and we only had 20 minutes of hot water per day due to a leak in the ground the slumlords refused to fix.

I bought term life insurance and a motorcycle.

This made our finances even worse, but I figured if I died in a horrible motorcycle crash then at least my wife would have money to get out of debt and move on. Plus, riding became my therapy.

I realized we were NOT free, that due to our bad choices, our consumer mentality, and lack of multiple income streams, we were financially stuck AND miserable.

I knew we had to make a change.

I had to find a way that I could provide for my family. Create freedom of time and money.

I started buying courses and trying various ways to make money.

I launched 4 different businesses trying to make more money. We were in severe debt but I never gave up. I was committed and determined.

I thought if I could just find the right method and the right guru to follow, I could make enough extra money to get out of debt and buy a house, and maybe even get rich.

I kept reading, researching, and watching webinar after webinar from all these different gurus. I tried program after program.

Then it hit me…If I would’ve just stuck with ANY ONE of them and worked at it every day, I’d already be rich.

I’ve tried every “get rich” method there is. Some would’ve probably worked if I stuck with them. But they didn’t hold my interest. I was doing, (actually just TRYING), them for the wrong reasons: just to make money.

For the past 14 years I knew I wanted to do real estate, but I always thought I’d do real estate wholesaling, or some other newbie investor method promising low cost and huge payoffs. I didn’t even consider becoming a licensed real estate agent until just a few years ago.

I’ll never forget the day I made up my mind that I was going to get my real estate license and not stop until I was successful. It’s an honest business and one of the few where you can make great money, learn valuable skills, and enjoy a rewarding lifestyle.

I was sitting around thinking how I can double my salary in the next few years at my IT job...

I’d have to become a C-Level IT exec, I would need more expensive degrees and certifications, get promoted several times in the next 2-3 years, then MAYBE have a chance at one of the few top positions at a company, if and when they became available.

Even so, I’d HATE what I did for a living, still answering to a boss, going to dreadfully boring meetings all day… no thanks.

Or I could become a top real estate agent.

Become a local expert, love what I do, get outside and not at a desk all day, helping other people and earning a great living. I thought about the real estate agents I knew… one made $300K in his 2nd year, now makes over $3.1 Million per year, most of it residual or passive income.

Another one owns 3 homes in 3 different states, each one worth near a million bucks, goes on frequent vacations, and seems happy all the time.

But when I Google “salary real estate agent” it says the only make $48K per year. That’s it??? What gives??

The average agent just dabbles. They do it part time for some extra money, or can live off the $48K, and loves the flexible lifestyle it provides. After all, it’s the #1 happiest profession!

Most agents don’t even try, 87% of agents fail in 5 years. The main reason is they don’t know how to generate leads, or run and scale their business.

The ones that do can easily make $300K to $1M in commission per year. What the difference? The top agents are consistent and know how to generate leads, and follow through on them. That’s it!

If you really want this bad enough, and you promise to commit yourself, you can make it happen by following a proven method. But not every method resonates with every agent.

The key to success is persisting with extreme focus, unwaivering faith, and extraordinary action.

Stop trying to build 10 bridges to “Millionaire Island” – instead focus on finishing 1 of them.
